Part novel, rolled out chapter by chapter in a punk-hardcore fanzine, Stormstrike is a new independent publication from Oslo.

At its heart is Undo It Yourself, a fictional story about a Norwegian hardcore band touring Europe in 1994 – five young guys crashing their way through European subcultures, leaving a trail of chaos and unintentional comedy as their frontal lobes slowly struggle to catch up.

Stormstrike #1 features the first chapter of the novel, following the band as they arrive in Copenhagen to play the first show of their first European tour. Future chapters will be released in forthcoming issues, making Stormstrike an ongoing series of fanzines.

In addition to the chapter are interviews with contemporary underground bands from the US, UK, Italy and Peru, plus a couple of short stories from Norwegian music manager Geir Luedy (AURORA, Sigrid), taken from his as-yet-unpublished autobiography.

Stormstrike is written, edited and designed by Vegard Waske, who grew up in Norway’s punk and hardcore scene, playing in bands, making fanzines and trading tapes before going on to spend more than 25 years working as a music executive. The novel draws partly on his own experiences of touring Europe in the ’90s – with reality, borrowed memories and fiction becoming increasingly difficult to separate.

Made in the spirit of the DIY fanzines of the ’80s and ’90s, Stormstrike is about much more than hardcore: it’s about subculture, community, identity, travel, friendship and the idea that you can create your own world outside the mainstream.
